3/2/2024 0 Comments Msr revo ascent 22I hardly ever have a winter day where I'm not using them at all or using them for 100% of the hike. The hikes I do often require me to switch between wearing and not wearing the shoes several times. This brings me to the only positive thing I can really say about these Revo shoes, they're a bit lighter than the Tubbs. At least with these, I can buy the tails and avoid getting longer shoes for when I won't need it. I didn't notice any difference, but it's hard to compare this without using them back to back in the same conditions. ![]() I, unfortunately, can't fix this poor design.Īs far as floatation, these MSR shoes are supposed to have better floatation than the Tubbs. It really sucks because I love my shell pants a lot more than these bad snowshoes. Seems like very poor design, like the strap issues. The Tubbs shoes don't have these stupid side spikes, and I've never had any traction issues in those. I ended up catching my shell pants on these spikes and sliced a hole in them. The fact that all MSR shoes seem to have spikes going along the sides is rather dumb. I've never once had an issue with the Tubbs straps. The MSR straps have come undone on me while walking three times in under a month of ownership. I found them easier to use with gloves and more secure. Looking at the straps, I strongly prefer the Tubbs straps. I used the Tubbs for about 10 months and less than one month with the Revo. I do not like these snow shoes on packed/heavily used trails that are ice resembling concrete since the frames having the teeth on the outer edge like to flex and I worry about breakage, i would recommend a different style snow shoe or foot wear traction if your travel is on hard packed/ ice trails.įirst I should mention that I used to use Tubbs mountaineer shoes, so I'll be comparing these MSR Revo to the Tubbs. I will note that the comments about the teeth damaging clothing can occur if the user is not used to keeping their feet apart when snow shoeing. When traveling in untracked snow i appreciate the way the snow shoes keep the snow from pushing out the and aid in compaction of the snow under foot to minimize postholing. The group of five I travel with all have the same snow shoes and we have only had one breakage of a heel strap in the last three years. The step bars are a great help to save foot stress when climbing steeper slopes. I use these snow shoes for back country travel and hunting in untracked terrain, the add on tails can help depending on snow conditions. Whether conquering deep powder or icy trails, these snowshoes are an outstanding choice.Īfter three seasons using these snow shoes in Alaska I have been impressed at the quality, durability and function. The metal edge, while providing excellent traction, can occasionally feel like a double-edged sword, as it has the potential to catch on the inside of your legs and, more often than not, on your clothing.Īll in all, despite these minor quirks, my overall experience with these snowshoes has been exceptionally positive, and they have proven their worth in a variety of challenging conditions. One minor inconvenience I've encountered is the necessity to always wear gaiters with these snowshoes. Sneaking up on anything becomes an impossible feat. ![]() However, it's worth noting that when navigating icy and rocky terrain, these snowshoes excel in performance but come with one noticeable drawback – they're quite noisy. One standout feature is the remarkable binding system, which, in my experience, surpasses any other binding I've encountered in terms of ease of use. They've been put through their paces, conquering deep Montana powder as well as tackling late-season trails covered in hard-packed ice. Steep terrain demands the security of PosiLock™ AT bindings and Ergo™ Televators heel lifts, while the snowshoe’s reinforced nose withstands kickstepping on ascents through any conditions.I've truly relished my time using these snowshoes. That confidence starts with their ExoTract™ deck, which combines external steel teeth for gripping the contours of any slope, with supreme durability, and the torsional flex of plastic for excellent purchase. MSR’s new rugged Revo Ascent snowshoes are engineered to take you anywhere you want-or need-to go.
